I was going to suggest to install and run
 sudo apt-show-versions | grep xastir
but that doesn't show anything. And I have no idea if it's a problem with
apt-show-versions or xastir

I'm not home, and I can't find a command line way of interrogating Xastir
on Raspbian on the RPi to find out what version is installed.
Please advise which distro is on your Pi, what version of the distro, and
then we can advise. You may need to upgrade your distro version to install
a newer Xastir. Debian Jessie is 2.0.4, and even that is newer than what
you have.
Is the Pi your first or 40th Linux box?
