Xastir isn't actually "aware" of map features beyond their bounds, and in some cases their data type (e.g. dbfawk parsing). In most cases the map is a bitmap, so its only attribute is the bounding box of the map tile.
So plotting a course along a road is pretty much so far from what xastir does you couldn't see it with a telescope. Xastir is good at what it does, but that isn't on the list.
