The virtual machine where this mailing list and the Xastir wiki live at xastir.org has been having a lot of trouble lately. Curt keeps kicking it and waking it up again, but it is not reliable. A replacement VM is in the works, but Curt is looking for help managing it.
Since so much of our knowledge base lives at that wiki, and some of our users are still using this email list, that means we've got a bit of an issue. In the meantime, since this mailing list is not reliably delivering messages to users, the Discussions tab on our GitHub repository is a good place for users to pop in, participate in discussions, and ask questions. And of course, reporting bugs is ideally done at in the Issues tab of the repo as well. If you're interested in contributing fixes, well, those would be really welcome. I have been working to put new documentation up on the GitHub wiki, though it is a daunting task and I've barely scratched the surface. It is even harder when I don't have the xastir.org wiki to crib off of. Further, even when xastir.org is up, a lot of the information there is outdated. Our "Installation Notes" document how to get Xastir running on systems that nobody uses anymore, mapping resource pages point at dead links. Even some of the core pages still refer folks to Bob Bruninga's web pages at the US Naval Academy. If anyone would like to help reboot Xastir's documentation by helping to populate the GitHub wiki, please hop on to GitHub and participate in discussions. I could use a hand, especially with documenting how to use Xastir in ways I never do, such as with more modern equipment than a PC and an old-school hardware TNC (looking at you, Direwolf users). Ultimately, I'm looking at the possibility of replacing some of the outdated pages on the xastir.org wiki with links to the Github wiki, where it is much easier to maintain and get updates from the community. If you are able to volunteer to help Curt in his efforts to administer xastir.org and have good Linux systems administration skills, please post to the Discussions to volunteer. Hopefully with a good set of updated user documentation as well. -- Tom Russo KM5VY Tijeras, NM echo "prpv_a'rfg_cnf_har_cvcr" | sed -e 's/_/ /g' | tr [a-m][n-z] [n-z][a-m] _______________________________________________ Xastir mailing list [email protected] http://xastir.org/mailman/listinfo/xastir
