Unfortunately, it will be extraordinarily difficult for me (as the person
nominally responsible for the rtree library in xastir) to debug this, as it
appears to be peculiar to Fedora Core 6, which I do not use and have no
access to.

Tom - I run Fedora here at home, and have installations of both 32 and
64-bit versions - I haven't tried building Xastir on them recently,
but I can certainly try it, see what happens, and if it is really
necessary, I do have a way of giving you remote ssh capability to a
fedora box if it's necessary.

Let me know if you'd like me to do this.
