Hmm, I just added Mandriva One 2008 to my Linux box (dual booting now with
Mepis). The package manager finds libmagick10.7.0-devel, which matches up
with what worked before.

Yes, urpmi works well but since I'm forced to go online under Windows I have to resolve the dependencies myself.

Are you perhaps using a different flavor of
Mandriva 2008?

Just the commom garden-variety Mandriva 2008.0.

Regardless, I'm glad to hear you got it resoloved. No
internet access on Linux? Ouch - and perhaps a bit unlucky.

There is only one 3G network available to me and the ISP provided Chineese modem won't work under Mandriva 2008. It did work under Mandriva 2006 but it was troublesome.

   I have tried
out a lot of Linux distributions over the past year or so, and Mandriva was
one of the better ones for hardware detection (at least with my stuff).

I have to agree with you Lee. I used Red Hat for a couple of years until a bug in the C compiler occurred that Red Hat seemed slow to resolve. Mandrake 7.1 had just been released so I tried it and have updated each version since.

I have tried other distributions in the hope that I can get my modem going, but so far, without success.

Regards,
Phil.
