Jim.. Try this distro. Its based on DSL v4which requires 64Megs of ram. The version of Xastir on there is about 1.53 from memory. You can add your own maps and save your settings for reboot next time on a USB stick.

If you have 200Megs or so spare on your HD then creating a Linux swapp partition would also help even possibly with Harvs Hamshack CD. For more info and boot options with DSL look here http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ The version 2.5 is based on PCLinuxOS and takes more resources to run although Ive run it with 128Megs of ram using the Xfce desktop instead of KDE. Both of these distros are VK centric with the maps on the distro but both also would have access to the internet via various means.
