Hi, Douglas, I went through the log, it looks like there is timing issue during netboot. xCAT gives "0" when there is "To select this console as the active console press 0" outputed in the console, for some reason, the "0" goes into open firmware command line, generally it shouldn't.
I tried to reproduce this problem on one of our Power 775 lpar, but cannot reproduce it. If it is possible, could you run the following steps to retry it which can give the verbose log from rnetboot? 1. Put node v20119 to open firmware state, and type the command: set-defaults. This command can put open firmware to defaults state and will output the line for first boot - "To select this console as the active console press 0" 2. On MN, issue "rpower v20119 off" to put the node in "Not Activated" state. 3. On MN, issue "rnetboot v20119 -V > /tmp/bootlog", the -V option can give verbose which include all the expect script log. When LPAR powers up, it requests to press 0 to use this console, xcat does nothing, then the IBM SMS screen rolls, at which point it puts in the 0 on OF prompt 0 > which then goes to 1 > and xcat waits. LPAR reboots, we get to 0 > prmpt and xcat does the OF writes to kick off AIX install, but it takes too long and the rnetboot command comes back with: v20119: Timeout waiting for ok prompt; exiting. Error: 'rnetboot v20119,' failed But the install does start and builds from our spot and mksysb. After initial creation of LPAR and install cycle, this issue doesn't repeat. I don't recall seeing this on P6 servers, though it could have and I just don't remember. Our setup is a heterogeneous cluster, with SLES11.1 x86_64 MN and a AIX 6.1 SN running xCAT 2.5.2 with MySQL backend. I'm attaching console log that shows this behaviour.
