If you only have your non-root user id's in LDAP and not any of the
service ids like sshd, mysql, etc there should be no problem. xCAT does
not do anything specific for LDAP, but maybe some service it is using is
affected. What database are you running? You entry in syslog is
normal . I assume you just edited out the real date, time hostaneme.

One thing you could try is when LDAP is messes up, try a database command
from the command line. What database are you running?

Subject: [xcat-user] How much depends xCAT on LDAP?

Hi all,

got a SLES 11.2 server running xCAT 2.8 and OpenLDAP 2.4.26.
The LDAP occasionally does nasty things. Also, we have some problems on the
cluster that maybe could be xCAT related. Taking a look at the syslog I see
messages like this:
[date, time, hostname] xCAT: xCAT: Allowing tabdump osimage for root from
localhost

One time while LDAP was messing around I tried to lsdef and tabdump, which
both did not work. Or at least, not immediately - I cancelled the command.
Unfortunately, did not think to wait if it would work after some waiting
time...

So, summing up the syslog messages and the behavior that tabdump doesn't
work while LDAP is messing around, I conclude that xCAT sends an
authorization request for some actions which in our case might be sent to
LDAP.
Is this conclusion correct?

At the moment I do not yet have enough evidence to draw this link between
xCAT and LDAP for sure. Additionally, I do not (yet) know how to trigger
the LDAP error so that I have to wait until it occurs... And since we must
solve this problem asap, I'm asking here.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Kind regards
