Luckily I archive the xCAT mailing list, so found one of the follow up emails. The person having that problem had old entries in /var/lib/dhcpd/dhcpd.leases for those nodes. See below. Does that help?

The Genesis images are now being loaded as expected. And I stumbled upon the new problem: Node discovery looping. Details: On the node which is being booted I can see that it was given an IP from the range I've defined (172.172.172.100-200). It got the IP 172.172.172.101. I see the following on the console: "Network configuration complete, commencing transmit of discovery packets" and on the mgmt node in /var/log/messages I see: "xcatd: Processing discovery request from 172.172.172.101" This process seems to loop and do nothing else. I can SSH into the 172.172.172.101 node, looking at ps aux I can see this script running: "/bin/bash /bin/dodiscovery" (Following what the script does, I can verify it created the /tmp/discopacket.gz file). And when I run this command manually: "cat /tmp/discopacket.gz | udpcat.awk 172.172.172.1 3001" I can verify it arrives on the management node by watching the /var/log/messages. I think that the management node is supposed to create the /reboot file on the 172.172.172.101 node? That file is not present. Any idea what would cause this process to loop and why the /reboot file is not being created? If there is any further information I can provide which can help? Is there any known reason why PXE would ignore the /tftpboot/xcat/xnba/nets/ location and use the /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/ACACAC as in my case? I ran "mknb x86_64" and I ran "makedhcp -n ; makedhcp all ; service dhcpd restart", I supposed that is sufficient? Nuriel. However we did not go out to try to remove disused files, just made dhcp configuration result in them being ignored, at least that is the intent. I run "mknb x86_64" and get: "Creating genesis.fs.x86_64.lzma in /tftpboot/xcat". I end up with these new files: /tftpboot/xcat/genesis.fs.x86_64.lzma /tftpboot/xcat/genesis.kernel.x86_64 And in the /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/ all the new files that have been generated contain lines pointing to KERNEL xcat/nbk.x86_64 APPEND initrd=xcat/nbfs.x86_64.gz quiet xcatd=10.1.1.1:3001 I would expect to see the genesis kernel in these files? Why, if the current version of xCat does not even include these files, why are these pointers being created? How can I make sure that the genesis kernel is loaded? (I already create dynamic range network and ran makedhcp -n ; makedhcp all ; service dhcpd restart) Thanks in advance.
