Unfortunately there's no network driver for virtio. After I rebuilt Genesis with the network driver everything worked fine. I followed a bug report that was submitted about this exact issue, looks like xCAT 2.10 will include the virtio network driver by default.

Thanks for following up on this question for me!

Using old genesis should be fine with original functionalities, it's just a diskless root image. I did not big changes in genesis for 2.9 release.

Thanks

Subject: [xcat-user] No virtio drivers in Genesis kernel

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all,

I ran into an issue with the Genesis kernel not containing seemingly any
network drivers that KVM uses (I tried every nic type). I added the
Virtio drivers to the Genesis kernel utilizing Jarrod's instructions on
how to use the Genesis Builder script, and that seemed to work fine.

My question is, it looks like the version posted up for download is for
xCAT 2.8. I installed on a 2.9 cluster and so far haven't ran into any
issues. Are there changes or gotchas I should be aware of with using
this older version?

Thanks!
