We, and I believe most sites, utilize some form of shared storage (NFS,
CIFS/Samba, or some parallel FS) for home directories which will remove
the need to do any kind of user data synchronization. Just make sure the
home directory is mounted in the same place on all machines in the cluster.

Both of these commands seem to be useful for giving ordinary users
access to xCAT, or in the case of xdsh actually requires that. But
that's not really what I'm looking for. My users shouldn't have any
need to manage the cluster nor be involved with xCAT at all; I just
want to distribute their authorized_keys and known_hosts file.

xCAT seems to be very good at managing root's known_hosts
file, and distributing root's SSH key to the nodes for
passwordless logon. I believe this is done by updatenodes.
Can xCAT do the same for ordinary users as well? I have not
found a way to do it yet.
