This is a two-edged sword. I prefer to keep the exlist as comprehensive as possible, since image size matters for the diskless images (it cuts into the RAM available for jobs). As an ordinary user like me, it is often hard to judge what is safe to remove - I prefer relying on the great work the xCAT team has done to create a useful-in-most-cases exlist, and then modify it on a case-by-case basis for situations such as John's._______________________________________________________________________

Check your exlist file (somewhere under /install/custom). The default version of it excludes /usr/include from your image.
