That’s correct. With an old project that had launch images, it ran “zoomed in” 
(rather than “stretched” — it runs with the same appearance as the system 
“zoomed in” mode, so no pixels are tortured). Changing to a launch XIB file let 
it run in the mode configured in settings.

It’s ironic that the HIG (in their current much reduced form) are very explicit 
about not using the launch image as a splash screen, but the iOS target 
template creates a default launch XIB that is in fact a splash screen with your 
app name and copyright. I guess some habits die hard.
