Oh, I forgot to mention the resolution of that issue. Turns out you have to click the “Initial Controller” (or wording to that effect) in IB to specify which controller is initial. Who’d have thunk it :) I’d missed that step when setting up the second storyboard in my test. With that resolved the funky handling of the storyboard identifier isn’t as much of an issue.
