wrong forum, wrong question, but maybe someone here has experience with the
topic:

Can infrared cameras be used to spot thermals?

I tried an infrared thermometer with an 8x lens and you can see that the active
part of a cloud is between 0.5 and 2 degrees (Celsius) warmer compared to the
other parts of the cumulus.

However, to get a better overall view and potentially use it with blue
thermals, you would need a camera.
The question there is would it need to be one of those very expensive FLIR type
cameras, or would for example a night vision CCR with a daylight filter (only
lets infrared pass) suffice (or even a stripped down digital camera with the
infrared filter removed and a daylight filter instead).

regards,

Andre
