Hi Herwig, a quick and dirty way to switch off the plane symbol shouldn't be a problem, however we would obviously like to have a more elegant solution. We have spend several month now on simplifying and restructuring the code and the step to having what you are requesting isn't that far away. If you have some programming experience or are willing to learn I would suggest that you visit us on our IRC channel #xcsoar on the FreeNode network (for example via http://xcsoar.org/discover/irc/) so we can talk about this a little further.
