Good morning,

I just wanted to say that I think a communication 'thing' is complicated.

While developing - IRC is great, but what if you spend most of your time
programming during the day in the Southern hemisphere. When wanting a general
question/answer, still nothing beats an email list with a good archive.

In theory forums are slightly more structured mail lists, e.g. they have groups
(forums) and you have to consciously start a new topic or note. So they seem
become organised. I have to say that I personally don't use forums much.

Then there is QA type systems (similar to Stackoverflow).

Then there is WIKI for long term information. A wiki is ideal for users to find
problems and answers. Far better than a forum, QA, or mail list. BUT it lacks
an easy ability to add questions - if I create a page along the lines of "How
do I use a Unix Serial Port" then how do we know it is there to answer.

In conclusion. I really don't know. I would prefer Mail list and Wiki and IRC
for instant development stuff, but find that in practice we don't get people
updating the wiki enough after a question is answered in the mail list.

Good luck.

Scott
