BTW.: Just thinking loud, couldn't this already existing code be used to create 
an individual thermal map on the device kind of in background? The Pilot could 
collect his own map over any number of flights and make tactical use of it. 
XCSoar could maybe use the data to make optimization proposals. Also, this 
accumulated map could be uploaded to 'the server' now and then (or when 
updating) instead of uploading all the individual IGC files. 

;o) I finally found out what "cloud computing" is all about! ;o)
