Dear all. I am a newbie to xcsoar and so far very impressed with the
system and support.
I downloaded and now successfully tried it on my Samsung Charge mobil
phone. It is not as sunlight readable as a lot others I am sure but
better than the Ipaq 5150 utilizing WinPilot.
As the Charge is my primary cell phone I am considering a stand alone
Android device, perhaps one that has been a proven success.
My question ; is there a device that could connect hardwire direct
into my CAI 302 without any external device? ( I don't have great
success so far with blue tooth devices but who knows that could change).
Any word of wisdom appreciated.

As others said, consider living with a Dell Streak 5 rather than
the 7.
See here for a direct comparison of the Streak with the popular HP
iPAQ 310/314 and an iPhone 4:
http://www.davids-world.com/bigtrip/streak5_vs_ipaq310/index.html
(I also used to have older PDAs such as a Dell Axim x51v and
various Palms, which were all (apart from the very first Palm
Pilot) pretty much unreadable in our application. The 310 was the
first device I found readable in a glider, though its power
problems marred an otherwise useful piece of kit.)

Perhaps the auto rotation should be disabled by default. After all
what good will it do if the screen auto rotates when you bank hard?

We don't have the resources to maintain a second stable branch. It's
really boring work, 90% of which I have to do myself. Maintaining an
even older branch is just more boring, with only few users and no
future.
We try our best to keep one stable branch with regular bug fix
releases. We cannot ultimately preclude regressions.
Every one of you can help make XCSoar more stable by taking time and
test it with replays, verify calculations, and writing bug reports,
responding to questions we have. I'm glad that this works well
already.

Caught in the act, ticket #2034. If I need to use different
options for
the logfile, LMK.

You would have to do a negative G manoeuvre, like a slow roll, to get
the display to rotate :-0.
Unless you are holding the device by hand in the cockpit, which is
probably not recommended.

I have never managed to trigger an Android bug on my Dell by
rotating it
with XCSoar running - on the ground not in the air! So disabling
this is
not a feature that would be required on all devices.
Ian
PS: On a lighter note, maybe the USA competition rules committee
would
judge this to be a feature which "allows flight without reference
to the
ground" ;-)

Neither did I, not even during wave turbulence this Spring in the
mountains.? It seems to me that neither air turbulence?(at least
not the one you survive to tell about :-)) nor the bumps during
landing on a grassy field seem to trigger display rotation on my
Dell.? I assume the G loads are just to short.? Therefore, no
problem.? Luckily the Dell also doesn't crash when I force display
rotation on the ground.? But I shamefully admit, I didn't try
flying XC?inverted (yet) :-)
?
Keep up the great work.
?
Cheers
Sascha
