Not sure I can fully help Gary, but if you want to contact me off list, I might
be able to make suggestions.
I use Altair, but I usually use the latest without issue.
One suggest in the mean time is you can try the 5.x version and maps were not
proprietary, but they might have been before the XCM combined file (which is
essentially a ZIP of the files together) and you had to load the files
separately. It might have been pre JPEG2000 too so it might be the older map
format.
My gut feeling is persist with the upgrades, but by starting fresh, e.g. clean
configuration and maps, waypoints etc. Then you will get more support from the
community, who are all up with nearly the latest, and get the advantage of the
new version once it is working for you.
