I think we are talking about two different issues. I was referring to the IGC 
file XCSoar generates from the Cambridge/Volkslogger stream which (I believe) 
can ignore the obviously erroneous year (after all we talking realtime here) 
and use the system year instead. 
Validation of IGC files is a different challenge.
