Beta of Ant is due out next week sometime.  The feature cut-off is Apr. 30.
Its long overdue.

Whether XDoclet should require it, thats a different story and up to you
folks.  If you want XDoclet to support Ant 1.4.1 and Ant 1.5, be sure to
build your tasks using Ant 1.4.1 though and they will work with 1.5, but not
the other way around necessarily.

The DynamicConfigurator was designed primarily for the XDoclet use-case
though, and would add a lot of life to your tasks - so I'd recommend giving
it a shot once I get it committed and making the call from there.
