To discuss: maybe we should have a mergedir property available in a super class
and have a well-defined merging behaviour + some docs.
See XDP-149 and XDP-148 : it seems to be needed. The WebPlugin has a mergedir
property, but I'm not sure it's used correctly and in all places (seems its
only used for filters)
Also see XDP-7 : Aslak had taken care of this back in the days
