there are still lots of people in the world who cannot speak english. making messages localized will help increase the worldwide adoption of xdoclet.
*if multilingual support cannot be offered initially*, perhaps it could be incorporated in say version "2.1". version "2.0" could be the initial version to get it out the door to the masses quickly. and then, along with bug fixes and improved stability, the next incremental version could add multilingual support (i.e. using ResourceBundles).
also, if some type of system could be put in place (something similar in format to jira), whereby the class name and the (english) string message are displayed, with fields for other language version to be entered displayed beneath, multilingual support would be pretty easy to provide. for example:

then, if the user select a different language (from the pull-down at the top of the page), the page would then display all the classes (or a limited number of classes) and the fields for each class in the appropriate language. the text for each field could be displayed in a text box, allowing the viewer to easily enter or change the field's text.
the point is to make it very easy for anyone to help with the localization simply by going to a web page, entering text (for a particular field's message), and clicking submit. that way, not only xdoclet developers can help, but general users as well.
to help promote the localization effort, perhaps a simple 1 line message/signature at the bottom of emails (that go through the mailing list) can be automatically appended that reads "help localize xdoclet! only 10 seconds is needed!" and includes a link to the webpage where the person can enter text immediately.
given the effort required, maybe this could be proposed as a new addition to sf.net and apache projects to help in the localization of open-source software. does anyone know if something similar to this exists?
