Just did a build from a clean checkout with no problems. Ant 1.5.2, JDK 1.4.1_01, Maven 1.0 beta 7 on Mandrake Linux 9.0. So no, it's not broken. You mentioned you're using Ant 1.5.2, but what about the rest of your environment? How does that compare? Also, I notice it's falling over while generating the maven plugin; if you don't need that or the generated docs, then it should already have built the rest. If you do need the generated docs, you could try running 'maven site' yourself after it's crashed and all you'll be missing is the maven plugin.
