Thanks, I tried to incorporate / merge this with the stuff Julien proposed later, and to update based on the discussion in this thread. Please check the next draft since I'm sure I must have either missed something or mismerged concepts etc. I've also left some XXX where I wasn't sure what the conclusion was. I think the main suggestion was to allocate various data structures at passthrough setup time rather than at command xlate time. Please check draft C, which I hope to post shortly.
