suffixing _cmd will look ugly ( as below ex) where "cmd" is repeated twice.

    cmd.mapd_cmd.cmd = GITS_CMD_MAPD;
    cmd.mapd_cmd.devid = dev->device_id;
    cmd.mapd_cmd.size = size - 1;
