Sadly, yes. Comments are stripped out on a line-granuar basis, prior to Docker interpreting the remainder. This is the approved way to do comments in dockerfiles, and we already have other examples of this in our dockerfiles. See e.g. a0e29b316363d9 for what I'll be doing with these comments in ~3y time. ~Andrew
