Yep, I recompiled Ubuntu 18.04's
linux-image-4.15.0-33-generic_4.15.0-33.36_i386.deb with this patch
and it now works, thanks. I reported the bug here:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1789118

So I'll now add a pointer there to your patch.
