update:

I tried this

virt-install -n solarisPV --paravirt -r 1024 \ 
  --nographics -f /xvm/sol11pv.img  -s 16 \ 
  -l /opt/isos/solarisdvd.iso


with Solaris snv_81 (Dom0 and DomU) and it works  - except that I had to 
install without network configuration because the DHCP configuration did 
not work. The network worked after I added the necessary statement to 
disable TCP checksums to the /etc/system of the DomU after the installation.

Ah, and I did not use ZFS filesystems.
