What do you mean Mac OSX?  Are you using the built-in viewer 
(vnc://machine) vncviewer (realvnc) or Chicken of the VNC?  I personally 
would point out encryption support as a reason, granted you use their 
client to match the server.  I haven't played with file transfer using 
Ultra/RealVNC, how fast is it?
