I had the same problem myself. Can I ask if you did this as a fresh user ($HOME/.mozilla did not exists), since it seems to work better if you are upgrading your profile. Also, export/import bookmarks from a html file does not work as well.... It looks the whole bookmark system does not work very well on OpenSolaris.
