Some older compilers do not support namespaces, so we can't use them.
Name collisions are an increasing problem, so things may change in the
future.

the xerces-libraries do not use c++-namespaces
to encapsulate their identifiers
( e.g. the commonly used "token" )
please tell me why ?
is there a reason or just forgotten ?
