Do you mean you get the result when you serialize, or in the event in your handler?

I would expect the characters event after the <cust_info> startElement event will give me the unchanged value Customer<!1>, however, what I get is actually Customer<!1> , that is, the ‘<’ and ‘>’ is converted to its entity reference. Is this the expected behavior? Is there a way to “turn off” the automatic conversion?
