Under IBM JDK 1.1.8, and using Xerces1, we seem to compile and run. (I'm getting some odd complains from the Xalan testcase's build process about not being able to find Thread, but I _think_ those are something odd I'm doing.) Under MSVJ++, we have that outstanding problem with it not liking explicit requests for the UTF-8 encoding. Patched past that, we seem to run. (The bad news is that we are now failing a number of Xalan's IDKEY testcases we really should be passing.
