But my point is that Xerces *does not fail* when handed the raw file. This implies that it's not being given the raw file. Something is pulling the file out of the jar (xerces doesn't know how to do that by itself) and that's almost certainly where the 80-char breakage is showing up. Hard to say why the problem didn't manifest itself before until we know what the downstream processing looks like. So if I were you, I'd be tempted to bug the digester folks to see if they have any insights...
