OK, I've applied the modified patch.  I have to admit I feel some trepidation 
in doing so though:  in the surprisingly varied world of JVM's, I hope we've 
thought of all the ways by which one might figure out one has reached he end of 
a chain of class loaders.  I certainly can't imagine any other alternatives, 
but if there are any then this code will break badly....

Anyway, if you could subject this to as thorough a test as possible--and I 
conjecture you must have a fair suite of class loading tests--then please close 
this bug if all's well.
