See http://jguru.com/forums/view.jsp?EID=590373 for some discussion. I think the real issue is that namespace nodes are not really attribute nodes, so you can iterate over all the attributes you want, and you're not going to find any namespaces.
This is one of those areas where at first XML just doesn't make any sense... until you really read the XML and Namespaces and other specs, and then it does.
