As with colour, the \pdfannot whatsit shouldn't affect spacing so long as you avoid placing it in the middle of a word where it may affect inter-letter kerns or ligatures. \pdfannot{..}a should have the same spacing as a \mathrel{\pdfannot{..}=} should have the same spacing as = > > I can supply instances where spacing has changed, by an extra thin space. > Sometimes placing extra {...} avoids this extra space, other cases require > a \! to fix. > > > David
