For years I used XeLaTeX with English and Sanskrit text, with only a
huge \hyphenation{}

to get the Sanskrit hyphenated. I never saw that emergency stop.Nowadays I use Polyglossia and do proper language-switching some of the time, but not always. (I'm lazy.) Nary an emergency stop. Maybe I've just been lucky? Best, Dominik
