We hacked on LightDM at FUDCon Milan, but we were not able to get it working. There was a PAM problem. I can look at the Ubuntu package to figure it out, but I just didn't find the time. If you want to give LightDM a try, download the latest Ubuntu or Xubuntu. IHMO it still looks rough and is unfinished even though it is not version 1.0.1. Ubuntu was too fast switching I think. AFAICS it has similar issues as LXDM, at least the dual screen problem.
