Hello everyone

I was looking into a working replacement for LightDM for Xfce on
Wayland since our current implementation lacks a login manager

Here is the last Xfce plus Wayland installation on 16.0 which ends in
console mode
https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/5190410#

Internet sources including DimStar mentioned greetd plus gtkgreet as a
potential alternative to gdm or sddm which would pull quite some
dependencies from either GNOME or KDE.

I created a package called greetd-gtkgreet-xfce-wayland with a working
configuration for gtkgreet which is a small login dialog that reads
entries from /etc/greetd/environments
The default entry runs cage with the command cage -s -- gtkgreet based
on the available documentation

greetd-gtkgreet-xfce-wayland

One thing I am not happy about is that this package modifies the
default config of another package in our case gtkgreet. Perhaps we
could have a separate package greetd-gtkgreet with a different config
(cc maintainer Stefan Dirsch).

This would let us keep the scope limited to just a new file
/etc/greetd/environments which seems fine to me.

Perhaps better would be to overwrite file in /etc by a "template" in
/usr/share/greetd-gtkgreet-xfce-wayland/config.toml

Addition to the xfce_wayland pattern

We would also need to add greetd to systemd-presets-branding-openSUSE
to ensure the service is enabled by default.

What are your thoughts?
