So, I've trolled the lists and googled the nets in search of an answer, but everything I seem to come across deals with dual-headed output or some other wierd combo. My situation is simpler:
* x86 linux / xfree 4.3.0 + DRI + xfree radeon drivers (NOT ati clossed src)
* 1 powered-by-ati radeon 9000 with dvi, vga, and composite out. *ONLY* the DVI out is occupied by a DVI cable, hooked up to...
* 1 flat panel monitor (a sony SDM-M81)
It seems that ddc seems to correctly recognize the fact that I have a flat panel hooked up, but proceeds to dump me into analog mode (e.g. delivers an analog signal over the dvi cable) every time I boot into xfree:
--- snip --- (II) RADEON(0): I2C EDID Info: (II) RADEON(0): Manufacturer: SNY Model: 480 Serial# 407256 (II) RADEON(0): Year: 2001 Week: 29 (II) RADEON(0): EDID Version: 1.2 (II) RADEON(0): Digital Display Input --- snip ---
Also, perhaps of note -- I'm not using the (experimental?) radeonfb module at the kernel level for console fb support. Should I be?
Basically, my monitor displays 1280x1024x24bits just fine as analog, albeit very fuzzy. I have no trouble getting the digital display under The Other Operating System. How do I get xfree to use the DVI out as a digital connector? I'm not shy of cvs and recompilation -- just lay it on me. :) Any suggestions most most welcome.
TIA,
Idan
