Now, I'm quite angry about their behaviour not caring about linux-users.
Does anyone know if and when they plan to release up-to-date drivers?

I think this situation is not acceptable and I think I will set up a
webpage with a petition to ati forcing them to either properly support
their linux-drivers and provide updates or (even better) provide specs
so open source-drivers can be made.

Yeap, I am quite angry too :-( But I'll quote something I've read in a list (sorry I canot remember where ...) : those people sell harware which means that they've spent money to design and patent-protect it. Releasing specs and info for free means a possible loss of money so as a company that respects themselves, they won't do it.
After all that's what many companies keep doing (not caring about linux users) ...

What do you think about this?

Well, that's a good idea but read my signature and replace "mind/brains" with "ATI/NVIDIA/any big company". I don't think they'll blink an eye.

Tom.
