Hello: I am a new member. I tried to install Mandrake 9.1 with KDE Environment on my PC. The windows try to open but then close immediately. I have a SiS 5597/5598 4MB Video Card and also an AOC 7ELR monitor. I have all the specifications for the monitor H:30-70, V:50-160, but choose 7CLR a closely related monitor while Config. as my monitor doesn't exist in the available choice. Moreover, custom entries of ranges are not permitted in XFDrake the Config tool. However, still the problem persists.
Currently I am using Vector Linux 3.2, the config went well. However, when I use a browser etc., there are flashes and the ends shake sometimes. I must also mention that I have no porblem using my PC with the same setup for Windows 98. I have an IMB Aptiva PC Model E 140 with 156Meg RAM, 4Gig HD, 333MHz Processor. As AOC monitors and SiS 5597/5598 chips are both economy low end products several use them. There are also quite a few posts in Google regarding similar issues with these two pieces of hardware.
