The desired effect.
Well, more or less. xf86cfg works, with no more (whatevers), but startx
quits with the following bits:
Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 10
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:

Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
