That code has been in XFree86 since before 4.3.0. The handling of this relocation is, however, where the remaining fatal error is happening. I'll look into that if someone else doesn't get to it first. The second patch, with some adaption to handle symbol revalidation and other changes, should address the first problem, and I'll add that -- thanks.
