[vote] 1.0 release

I'd like to propose that we go ahead and get a 1.0 release out. Almost all 
the issues I'm seeing are related to things that we're not planning to fix 
until 1.1 so we really need to get going on that.

There's one patch from Mike that still needs to go in, but it's just 
example code so nothing major. I'll add it before building the release.

Also even if we don't release 1.0 now I think we should put bug fixes onto 
a branch so that we can open the trunk for new development. Branches are a 
pain, but we need to get new development ramped up again.
