And the website reflects Xindice 1.0 (that's why you have a dev section for 1.1 and 2.0). IIRC I've read several times in numerous mails "Xindice is not a server anymore".

Well, I wrote that wording on the website and I can definitely say that my opinion on what Xindice is/should be has changed since that time.
However, at the time we made the change to being more of a database library the intention was to still ship a server version as a separate download. We never detailed how we would do that though. Including Jetty in CVS seems wrong to me, but if there's still a goal of shipping a running server then something has to be done.
