Unable to do anything with the command line tool

I am trying to run the rc2 release of xindice. I can start the server 
and visit http://localhost:4080 no problem.

However when I run the command:
xindiceadmin ac -c /db -n addressbok
There is a considerable delay (around 60 seconds) where nothing seems to 
happen and eventually "ERROR:" is returned. There is no other 
information in this error message, just the word "ERROR".

Any ideas?
